Practical as she is dedicated, Carol only made the decision to venture into photography later in life when she was more empowered financially and had the freedom to pursue her passion and venture into unchartered territories. Sometimes, it’s all about great timing! Here’s Carol’s take.
On not even realising she was a minority
In truth when I first started, I did not realise there was male dominance. I was not intimidated by my being a female and focused on developing my skills behind the camera. What I lacked in terms of technical knowledge, I made up in persistence.
On challenges
I was very focused on what I wanted and knew what I liked. This has shaped my work and my perspective as a photographer today. I have no regrets as long as I continue to excel in the areas I choose to photograph and will continue to dive into unchartered territories.
On other women
My personal belief is to start off with a hobby or acquire a skill and to be the best that I can be at it. Failure is not an option for me. More women should take up photography as a hobby. With self-belief and commitment, they can be great photographers.
