Yik Keat has been making waves on Instagram with his personal brand of urban photography that has already snowballed into a prodigious following – one that has translated into projects with some of the biggest brands out there across multiple countries. He is also PIXERF’s youngest Ambassador Maestro. But you would never know that meeting him. Yik Keat is as nondescript and modest as his images are thrilling and immersive.
On his recent trip to Japan, we jumped at the opportunity to see Hokkaido, Kyoto and Osaka through his neo-futuristic lens.

I always take first inspiration from the city I’m in when I’m shooting; the environment in Japan has so much impact on my photography, and the culture and way of life are phenomenal. The image with the store lady deep asleep was extra memorable to me. I went super close towards her and when a loud noise was heard to my left, she did not even move an inch. I was so shocked!

The subjects interacting with the surroundings! They are always so immersed in what they do and it has so much depth and story to it. These were all taken in Hokkaido, Kyoto and Osaka.

Fukushima – the aftermath of what happened is something that I truly want to document. I’m almost done with Army and will be doing full-time photography, so expect more travels and short films!
